How the Selective Reenlistment Bonus works
The SRB pays Sailors in undermanned, critical skills to stay Navy. The formula is monthly base pay × (months of reenlistment ÷ 12) × award multiplier. Multipliers are published by rating, NEC, and zone in the current SRB NAVADMIN and change as manning needs change — the same reenlistment can be worth very different amounts from one NAVADMIN to the next.
Zones
- Zone A — reenlistments between 17 months and 6 years of active service
- Zone B — between 6 and 10 years
- Zone C — between 10 and 14 years
Payout and taxes
Bonuses are typically paid 50% up front with the rest in equal annual installments. SRB is taxable income unless you reenlist in a designated combat zone. Caps and eligibility rules apply — confirm your exact figures with your command career counselor and the current NAVADMIN before signing.
